27 января 2022

The WCO and SKKU launched the Data Analytics Scholarship Programme on Monday, 24th January 2022, with the financial support of CCF-Korea as part of the BACUDA project of the WCO Capacity Building Directorate. Due to the current COVID-19 regulations, the first component of the scholarship programme is being conducted through a web conference platform. One month of online classes will precede an offline curriculum at the SKKU in the second quarter of this year.

Twelve customs officials from the six WCO regions, carefully selected from over 60 applicants, are participating in this year's programme. The Programme received over 60 applications from Customs officials around the globe with passion and expertise in the fields of data analytics, wishing to expand their knowledge of the subject and its application in the Customs field.

During the opening ceremony, the participants were welcomed by Dr Taeil KANG, Director of the Capacity Building Directorate at the WCO and Dr Dong Ryeol Shin, president of the SKKU. Both speakers encouraged the passionate participants seeking to expand their knowledge in Data Analytics and its application in the Customs field to engage in the discussions and debates actively. They expressed their full support for the scholarship programme.

The curriculum holds a wide array of courses on data analytics, ranging from introductory courses to expert courses. The Programme will cover state-of-the-art topics such as Big Data Analytics, Machine Learning, Blockchain, and algorithms developed by the BACUDA expert group to widen the participants' horizons. Domain experts, professors, and WCO staff have been invited to deliver these topics.

Successful completion of the course entails in-depth research and study and the writing of a paper by each participant. After that, they will be fully equipped with knowledge and skills to help their respective organizations maximize the potential of data usage.

The following countries are participating in the data analytics scholarship programme: Albania, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Dominican Republic, India, Jordan, Liberia, Nigeria, Morocco, Peru, Tanzania, and Uganda.

The WCO plans to continue providing this Programme for officials from developing Member administrations.
